Basic Venison Stir fry

There have been a bunch of things I’ve been meaning to post recently, just seems harder to sit down on my phone during the summer. But now seems as good a time as any to get back on the horse (or deer?), the temps are getting chillier, leaves changing, days shorter, and the carnivore is about to leave on his annual elk hunting trip. Here’s to hoping he’s successful of there may be more beef recipes and fewer venison.

I’ve been traveling too and wanted to do a simple stir fry with venison and veggies.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb sirloin steak venison
  • Marinade: 2 Tbsp dry sherry, 3 Tbsp soy sauce, 1 Tbsp corn starch mixed with 2 Tbsp water
  • Veggies: 1 onion, 1 bell pepper, 1/2 crown broccoli, 3-5 garlic cloves, 1/2 bunch cilantro
  • 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes (or a fresh red pepper thrown in with the veggies)
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 Tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 tsp sesame oil
  • Rice

Instructions

  1. Slice the meat thin and let sit in marinade while you prep the other ingredients.
  2. Cook rice.
  3. Slice veggies long-wise.
  4. Heat the vegetable oil over medium/high heat.
  5. Add meat in batches so each piece can lay flat. After a few minutes flip each piece.
  6. Remove meat with slotted spoon or tongs.
  7. Save 2-3 Tbsp of the oil and fry the veggies and crushed red pepper flakes for a couple minutes. Add cilantro and garlic last, they only need about 30 seconds at high heat.
  8. Deglaze with soy sauce.
  9. Remove from heat and stir in sesame oil.
  10. Serve over rice.
